•  People Management and Development●    Line management of the Department Managers (currently 5 people).
• You will be responsible for their supervision, appraisals and professional development.
• You will also support them to implement these practices within their own departments. ●    Oversee an induction programme for any new team members alongside the Director and their line manager.●    Ensure that all staff within the organisation are up to date with mandatory training at all times.Leadership ●    Act as a role model for leadership excellence, inspiring colleagues to be pro-active, take initiative and share challenges and ideas to achieve better outcomes for children and families.●    Ensure that high standards of professional practice and delivery are promoted, understood, applied and maintained across the organisation.  ●    You will support the Director to lead and manage team dynamics and performance by setting clear expectations, carrying out regular staff supervision, providing constructive feedback, and monitoring the implementation of this feedback.●    Supporting the Director and CEO to create an inclusive and supportive team environment that prioritises building the confidence and competence of Team Managers and the wider social work team, continuous learning, reflective practice, professional development and staff wellbeing.●    Keep up to date with the latest social work/ counselling/ community education/ management practice theories and legislation through extensive reading and learning from others to ensure that we are a visionary and compliant organisation.●    Provide advice to the Director and CEO where appropriate, in relation to compliance with any changes in government legislation and the development of best practice related to Safeguarding and Social Work.Safeguarding: ●    Maintain and enhance safeguarding standards across the organisation, ensuring robust systems, clear accountability, and a commitment to ongoing learning and improvement.●    Act as the Safeguarding Lead for the organisation: This will include:❖    Monitoring and Reporting: Receive, investigate, and report safeguarding concerns to the Director, CEO and relevant authorities.❖    Policy Development: Support the continuous development, implementation, and review of the NGO’s safeguarding policies and procedures to ensure they meet current legal standards in both Uganda and the UK and embed best practice.  ❖    Training and Support: Deliver training to staff and organise external training on safeguarding practices, legal changes, and provide guidance on recognising abuse.❖    Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of safeguarding incidents, referrals, and actions taken  ❖    Risk Management: Identify potential risks of harm, exploitation, or abuse and implement measures and update processes to minimise them  ❖    Collaboration: Work with probation, the police, and other statutory bodies to ensure appropriate safeguarding measures are in place and appropriate actions are taken in response to any safeguarding incidents.Case Management and Assessment:  ●    Develop and implement a clear referrals process for children being referred to our residential rehabilitation site.●    Oversee referrals and ensure that the referrals process is being implemented correctly.●    Ensure that case files contain all required information when a child is referred.●    Agree an induction process for all newly referred children and oversee this to ensure that it is being implemented effectively.  ●    Facilitate case management meetings for new service users to evaluate their social, emotional, and psychological needs and develop tailored care plans alongside their case worker and other relevant stakeholders.●    Hold regular case management meetings to discuss ongoing cases, especially those needing additional support, with relevant stakeholders.Documentation and Reporting: ●    Oversee and ensure full records for service users and programmes are kept up to date and accurate at all times. ●    Ensure that the data recorded is of high quality through regular audits so that it can be used by management to inform future strategic decisions. ●    Embed a strong culture within the team that values, protects and uses information appropriately to support the development and improvement of individual care plans and overall services.●    Support departmental managers to analyse data against annual targets, report challenges and take initiative to address these challenges.●    Support the CEO and Director to develop and improve monitoring systems.Programme Development ●    Contribute to the research, preparation and implementation of new programmes.●    Lead and champion opportunities for programme improvement, innovation and change by ensuring team members are engaged, motivated, and empowered to implement, evaluate and improve programmes.●    Encourage all team members to be pro-active and take initiative to support the development and improvement of our programmes.Networking and Collaboration:●    Represent the organisation as required at government or partnership meetings.

Education: ● A degree in Social Work including safeguarding is required. (A master’s degree is desirable but not compulsory). ● Additional training in areas such as safeguarding, counselling or therapeutic models such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy would be partic

•  Experience:  ●    A proven track record of delivering high-quality services that safeguard children, improve outcomes and respond effectively to the needs of children and families (a minimum of 5 years’ experience).●    Experience of leading, motivating and developing teams, creating a culture of support, development and continuous learning.●    A commitment to child centred practice that places children, young people and families at the centre of decision-making and ensures that service users voices are used to shape the support and services provided by the NGO.Skills:●    The ability to build trusted relationships within your team and with external partners. ●    Excellent communication and influencing skills, with the ability to provide constructive challenge and inspire confidence amongst team members, senior leaders, service users and partners. ●    Conflict resolution●    Must be highly computer literate.●    Language skills in English, Luganda and Lusoga, and ideally some Kiswahili too.●    Interest in personal development and upskilling in the area of safeguarding, leadership, social work, counselling and therapy.Knowledge: ●    Strong knowledge of child protection, safeguarding responsibilities, legislation and best practice within the NGO sector.●    Strong knowledge of trauma informed care and the types of therapy that can be used to support service users. ●    Full understanding and commitment to providing person centred support. ●    Strong understanding of professional ethics.
